    Yet another newbie questions thread

    1) Generally near-infrared, 780nm or higher. Power can be pretty high on the higher speed printers, but it's very unlikely to be visible, which makes it less fun and more dangerous. 2) You'll need collimating optics. The optics from a DVD drive try to focus the light on a point - small point...

Why do I gotta fall off the damn laser train so often...

Thanks much guys, for the updates and the welcome, always good to be here and, actually really cool to hear that a lot is happening in the diode scene. The loss of accessibility to CNI's stuff sucks, on the DPSS front - (at least for us US people) but, 1W greens and these 462s, its good to hear...

Why do I gotta fall off the damn laser train so often...

Yeah, the CNI thing -- I saw signs of that late last year, and it bothers me... I know there was some option of certain companies installing ND filters and shipping in, but a lot of people complained about that... (...I don't know why. But the perfect is the enemy of the good.) Upsets me if...

Why do I gotta fall off the damn laser train so often...

Heh, just as you replied I found DTR's thread. Will PM him asap. :) Thank you though, and, good to see some folks still here... and good to see there is still new stuff coming through...

Why do I gotta fall off the damn laser train so often...

Thanks, really gonna try this time... This is different than the 480/476nm nichia diode I'm guessing, (Good! Moar wavelengths = good!!) but - where to get? :P Will search because I don't wanna be that guy, but, any leads would help :)

Why do I gotta fall off the damn laser train so often...

I like this community. A lot. So I don't know why I end up back burnering the laser hobby when life gets "meh". This is probably my 4th dang reapproach. So, here I am again, re-noobing yet again. Any of the old timers or new-folks-in-the-know have a good place to look for a quick rundown of...

    Looking for Red

Weeeel, the problem with a neg reputation is it actually has effects down the line, even if you like the look of it :| I'd forego that, because, explaining to people that you just liked the look is gonna be a bit of a bear during trades and stuff... I know you said you don't necessarily want...

CLOSED: ROUND 4!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy!

Re: CLOSED: Taking payments ROUND 4!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy! Hmm, interesting results on power check but I'm not going to worry yet: Coherent LaserCheck; HL515-30mW doing 14.7mW HL460-100mW doing 58.3mW Note, am using standard 3.7v RCR123 batteries though; so I suppose it could...

CLOSED: ROUND 4!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy!

Re: CLOSED: Taking payments ROUND 4!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy! Got mine. (Sorry, crazyspaz!) - all good and working well.

    Styropyro +++ feedback.

From 'gonna-build-it' on Jan. 9 to in hand and working (shipped) on Jan 13; not much more to say except everything went perfectly. Rare (to put it lightly) 476/480 build;communications, time, fit and quality, and shipping top notch. Not my first dealing with Styropyro and likely not my last...

476nm / 480nm diode build by styropyro REVIEW (pic HEAVY)

Fish caught, sir. Fish caught. 476/480nm handheld arrived from Styro today, this is a nice unit. Pics forthcoming, I'm going to try to get a 473/480/488 distinguishing shot but it's gonna be tough :) I would think that there may actually be uses for 488 diodes (vs this) for...

Re: OPEN: Taking orders ROUND 4!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy! Offroad - just checking -- we're not at payment date yet are we? I'm expecting 12/31/2013; Just since I'm on the road for a few here, can you PM me when it's time if it changes? (+/- 12/31/2013) - If not, I understand...

Neighborhood of cost? :P Styro -- PM me? :P Maybe? :) You know how I am about wavelengths.....

    Other CNI distributors?

Was that mostly shipping though, Greenlander? And while the GB after xmas may be a wait, honestly I've gone through a few of them and they've been OK. A lot of people shying away from this one but I think the way they have it set up, it's gonna work.

CLOSED: ROUND 4!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy!

Re: OPEN: Taking orders ROUND 4!: THE "Skylaser" (laserBtB) groupbuy! Sooo, i'd have to echo this but, who wouldn't I guess? :) I'm pro-freak on this stuff too for sure.. I'll see how it goes but i'd be willing to make a similar offer as cmak so long as we don't have to fight it out in the...

    Laser drastically reducing power immediately

What kind of laser is it? I thought a laser I had was dying and it -was- actually a loose optic. One of the slotted metal rings had worked its way loose, and when held a certain way, the lens was at a slant, causing the beam to widen. I wonder if the 'time based' dimming after a few seconds...

    CNI PGL-III-C 589nm way overspec

This... happens sometimes with the PGL-C 589s. I'd not bank on it... but I ended up with a 10mW PGL-C 589 that did ... 120mW. Really. Blew me away. Was even labeled 10mW. I think I wrote about it sometime on here, but I was a happy camper. Glad this is still happening some... I don't think...

    Vacuum Tube (Thermionic Valve) Fun!

Hell yes. One of my other hobbies (too many?) is tubes/thermionic electronics. I have four Dynaco St-70s I'm in the process of restoring, with a Dynaco tube preamp. All of my headphone amps are thermionic, Sennheiser HD700s and 600s, and a closely guarded stash of NOS 12AX7s and 6BQ5s. I'm...

    Laser-Aircraft events

Yes, it seems that there are people putting "effort" into "airplane lasing" now. I still think there's a sociopathic or separation 'wall' there, where these folks are somewhere in their mind pointing it at an aircraft to "see what happens". (Even though the only result would be.. very bad.)...
