    Pot modding to lower power?

Why bother getting expensive optics to tame a powerful laser when you can just buy a weak laser to begin with?

    Lasers make you smarter.

Can light really stimulate the brain (not through the eyes) like electricity? These guys think so but lack a scientific explanation as to how light actually does things to the brain: http://www.ucsf.edu/news/2013/04/104831/laser-light-zaps-away-cocaine-addiction

    Just another sub.

Being scolded at is a small price to pay for an otherwise expensive lesson (had you not asked)... especially when it comes to circuitry!

    Pot modding to lower power?

The problem is that most lasers have a minimum lasing threshold... some cannot output less than 50mW lest they turn into LEDs. Sometimes you run into super weak lasers on Aliexpress. I coincidentally bought a 1mW red (looks way dimmer than an actual 5mW) but I'm sure there are greens there too...

    My first blue Laser!

Remove the focusing ring and CAREFULLY see if you can tighten it even more for a better beam

    My first blue Laser!

Your probably either need to mount your lens closer to the diode (DON'T SCRATCH THE DIODE WINDOW) or get a new lens if its broken

    Tunable Helium Neon Laser

    Love that golden yellow color!

Help me choose the right laser

As a matter of fact you need to underpower the 209 if you want to get a decent lifespan out of it. Realistically you'll only want to be pushing 600 mW out of it

    Questions

IR lasers are dangerous, but so long as you wear goggles you should be fine. This youtuber did a test on a pig eye and saw that it damaged the cornea before it burned the retina, so there's also that:

My first 1w green laser... Which diode to use?

The LPF laser diode list thread has lots of 1W+ greens listed, see which one you like (and is cheaply available online)

Does anyone know a site where you can find data sheets of all kinds of LD's

https://www.laserdiodesource.com/ for the official ones with datasheets and https://laserpointerforums.com/threads/list-of-laser-diodes-06-02-2021.100402/ for the ones with community testing only (and availability data)

    Focussing?

You pick an arbitrary focus distance (closer offers more power density, but too close means that smoke gets on the lens), and then keep turning the lens until the dot stops getting smaller/brighter, then turn backwards and repeat more finely. There is a limit to how focused it gets, and...

    Just some beamguns

Well if it can ignite wood after a couple of seconds (from the photos I can't tell), it just might be that rare 5W red C-mount or something similar. Either that or its just a massive DPSS assembly Its always interesting to see these kinds of unique units

    Just some beamguns

Plz post a pic of the module if you can, am curious

Which diode is the red one?

Help me choose the right laser

To be fair I have no idea how much energy resin needs to cure. If 405 works then it is a good solution ;)
  17. G

Help me choose the right laser

It'll be cheaper for you to try another resin formulation... UV handhelds are NOT cheap and unless you want to carry around a bazooka will have low duty cycles

Help me with my laser please

I once fried an M140 with ESD... those decent-divergence diodes are sensitive as hell until they are built into a laser host

    Space Discussion Thread

Hopefully that RTG will make sure we get a nice, long life out of it

Does anybody know a Keyswitch that's small and high quality?

Yeah I've only ever hooked it up to an Arduino for processing, but from some quick research I see that some of them are fully integrated. I generally keep my batteries out of lasers until use, but even if you don't I can't imagine a biometric sensor eating up much more than 160 mAh every 24h...
