I have had floaters since I was a child, as did my father. We both had excellent vision (better than 20/10) his started going down hill ~ mid 40s and mine has started to followed suit. I remember that he once told me that they used to call this phenomenon "pilot's vision".

Looks very similar to a SSTC I built when I was ~ 18 years old. I wish you well and look forward to pictures of the completed laser.

How much do you like your eyesight? Hit anything that retro reflects that 20mw beam back into your eyes and you risk damage. When in doubt, whip it out (proper wavelength goggles that is.)

I have 2 ssy-1 assemblies, I Death Stared the flash lamp in one, the other is ok. If you get a blue glow but no ignition then your flashlamp has probably leaked and will need replacement. Also, as Prototype stated, keep the business end of the ssy-1 pointed away from anything you do not want...

In addition to the thermal grease, drill and tap a small hole in one of the grooves and use a hex set screw to increase thermal coupling.

I would say 2 lasers to make it easier to keep it balanced.
