Must filter out wavelengths shorter than 10,000nm

Is there a filter that is very transparant at wavelengths longer than 10,000nm? It must not be passive anyware that this material's optical transmission is above 0%: i need the rising edge of the filter to start at around 10,000nm, be relitivly transparant (75 - 80% at any point between...

    Aiming on airplanes

$20k for a FLIR imaging system is rather cheap. come on, you cant even get a good thermal camera on Ebay for less than $5k! and thats just a hand held FPA. the FLIR I believe is a sophisticated device using low thermal mass/high thermal conductivity (diamond) sub-straight with millions of high...

    A seriously expensive laser pointer....

the growth is by thin film deposition. the team i work with makes DLC coatings all the time. there are many ways it can be done but the most popular ways is hitting a piece of carbon with a very high peak power and very tightly focused microsecond pulsed laser (like a q-switched 4th harmonic...

    Awsome Free Screen Savers!!!!

anyone got  links to some really cool free screen savers? oh and lets try to stay away from the trial versions with the annoying little popup windows or timelimits.

Just got some new 'toys' ^_^

I fixed my meter! ;D I LOVE FLUKE!!!! they make an awsome product! Seems that i accidently applied 10K volts to a 1k max meter, and yes it blew only the over volt protection circuit. How did i fix it??? well i opened a really cheap fluke70 and it seems the over voltage circuit is universal...

    matching specifications of electrical components

Re: Need help matching specifications on electrica Im not very good at choosing varistors as there are too many specifications. im not sure which specs are the most critical and which ones can slide a little. This is why i am having troubble with the information i have...

    matching specifications of electrical components

I am trying to fix an over-voltage protection circuit. The parts that I think are blow are a few MOVs, Thermistor, fusing resistor, capacitors, and a surge protector. I have a list of parts with a short description of specs, these are proprietary parts and numbers, so punching them into digikey...

    Memristor

Its advanced, i beleive he said a single memristor's resistance can represent more than an entire byte's worth of transistors, which makes sense if the resistance changes are large enough to have significant resolution. and something fast enough to decode that value into binary without creating...

    Flying Killbots

Wow, that is an incredibly smooth attitude feedback loop, I wonder if it uses gyroscopic stabilization, or if those pulse jets are the only things keeping it level? [edit] judging by the way it rolls when it hits the ground it doesnt look like there is any gyro, Now that is impressive, just...

    Random Pictures

I did this with a scanner at 600dpi. and the laser was on VERY low power.

Just got some new 'toys' ^_^

Damn, I was just messing around with an oil burner and blew my Fluke 87 multimeter because i accidentally measured the high potential on the ignition transformer. The DMM says 1000v max. luckly you can download schrematics from Fluke, and order components. and i think i only blew a few varistors...

I wish you could get google earth images of night hours, the first place i would look would be the Luxor Hotel and Casino in las vegas ;)

    Aiming on airplanes

If you're going to shine a laser at a heli it'd better be a yag (1064) and you better keep it directed right at that FLIR camera!!! j/k, could you only imagine what a decent hobbiest yag laser would do to a half million dollar FLIR camera!!! And think of the charges, intefearing with police...

Could you see a laser  from the moon?

Thats cool! i was looking into (OFSDT) Optical free space data transmission to make a P2P network connection from one of my friends houses to mine. but instead, i used focused microwaves because it was cheaper. But these things are still awesome! capable of up to gigabit speeds at over 5 miles...

Could you see a laser  from the moon?

also consider, at a divergence of 1 mrad over 20,000 miles (in a vacuum) your spot size is about 20 miles in diameter, that is a lot of energy spread out. I believe the intensity would be about 1/632282112 the power of a .125 inch spot. imagine a laser outputting only 0.0000000015mw, that's...

Could you see a laser  from the moon?

i would think that if you are seeing the darkest part of the earth, then the moon is totally dark as its in the center of the earth-moon shadow. But even in the shadow some light is refracted around the earth. I believe this is a real image taken from the moon as the earth was in transit in...
