    Help finding MW

You can't calculate the output like that. Lasers are not 100% efficient, and individual lasers of the same kind can vary in their output. To find out how many mW your laser is outputing, you need to measure the output with an LPM (Laser Power Meter) that is properly calibrated, and under strict...

Looking for big hosts with some power!

I'm not sure if we will use that diode now. It hadn't occurred to me before, but it's a multi-mode diode. So I assume the beam quality will be pretty horrible? It's annoying because that would have been one nice and highly visible beam like you said, but with a multi-mode beam I'm not sure that...

    Nanoscale laser

Neat! Now I'll be able to have a laser built into one of my teeth! Or better yet in my eye balls... The only problem is where do I stick the battery lol That green is nice too! I wonder if they can up-scale this technology for high power diodes!?

Good luck. Let us know how it works out :)

Looking for big hosts with some power!

Perhaps a custom driver would be the way to go, then we could have more host options, and it should also help with diode lifetime if it's designed specifically for one diode...

Looking for big hosts with some power!

Sorry, that should have been 750mA not 1000 :D The diode we are looking at now has a typical threshold current of 450mA and an operating current of 1000mA. The output power is listed as 250mW, so yes, I think it should be able to burn :)

Looking for big hosts with some power!

Well I did want a lower wavelength, but I guess 1000mA lasing threshold current was a little over-optimistic :D

I'm aware of that, but thank you for the comment Seb.

    Need help in the uk

No need to restrict your options to UK suppliers... if all you want is a a bright visible beam that's capable of burning things you'll almost certainly get better bang for you buck buying from outside the UK. There is also no way of telling if that company sells lasers that are up to spec. You...

Looking for big hosts with some power!

Thanks, yeah.... I think Darkarmyofone is talking with Jayrob. I'll point Darkarmyofone to this thread, so he can hopefully supply some more details. I'm not exactly sure myself!

Looking for big hosts with some power!

I'm looking for a big host, that can supply power to a high power diode/driver for a new build that Darkarmyofone is doing for me. Over 1800mA capacity is what I need. Is there anything out there that would be suitable? Just to add, we were looking at MDXL hosts using THREE 10440 aaa 3.6v...

Thanks hakza :) Nice to hear you got a few good ones. Good luck getting them open! Take your time and increase the amount of muscle you use gradually at first. Once you see that first hair-line gap, you're half way there.

Thanks seoguy. The first two batches of shots were taken with a Ricoh G3 3MP point and shoot (it has a pretty sweet macro mode). The last couple were all taken with a Canon 1Ds mkII/MPE 65mm macro lens using a tripod and macro-rails, since positioning was more critical, as well as offering more...

    Help Please!

Blue/violet lasers need to be quite a bit more powerful than green lasers before you can see the beam. I'm not sure exactly how much more. Blues are also still quite expensive even for a few mW. For blues, check the CNI GB, and for violet check out the buy and sell forum... there are people on...

    Help Please!

I got these: http://www.dragonlasers.com/catalog/Green-and-blue-laser-beam-protection--Laser-safety-glasses-p-16242.html They are good for blue/violet as well if you ever get one of those. PS. IR is not a problem as long as you observe proper laser-safety, ie don't point it in the direction of...

My experience with pots is limited, but I've only come across pots that stop once they reach their limit. I wonder if you could bypass the pot to check, but I suspect you'd need another pot or resistor or you might risk frying the pump diode or even another component in the driver?

I took the other two pens apart. The first was significantly harder to pull apart, and in the process I neglected to see that I'd warn through the piece of old leather I was using, resulting in the end-piece being gouged in a few places. The next one came apart much more easily... about 2...

Not sure is it's worth trying, but perhaps your multimeter batteries are old?

Edit to add - I measured the crystal to be 2mm long, perhaps a fraction over. How are these? Is it me or is that obviously misaligned? It seems that way... Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinkin too. I don't know how to exactly, but if someone could give me a basic rundown, it's worth...

Suffering a temporary mental block there... for some reason I was thinking button in first, then push the module lol. By the sound of it you got a bad diode perhaps?
