Oh right, so its just a safety precaution so if your wiper gets burnt out then the circuit is still connected but now the pot will be the maximum value of the pot (depending on the terminals you have shorted). Thanks for the speedy reply

Hi, a noob question and just want an explanation as to why the DDL driver uses the trimmer in a potentiometer configuration rather than as a variable resistor which would seem like the most obvious route. Thanks
