    RGV in the rain

Very nice shots - I like that you can see the subtle difference between 520 and 532nm. What are the mWs of those lasers? I'm considering a build with one of those 520s, and I'm wondering how beam visibility compares to 532.

KW of laser required to cut through a giant redwood tree in one second?

Maybe we're assuming the redwood tree is a perfect cylinder, in an absolute vacuum.

So whats really the best burning laser?

Not on his website at least. Maybe on his eBay page though.

Wicked Lasers - lying about tracking info

Re: Wicked Lasers Inferno This is the problem I'm currently grappling with. I want to make a new red build this summer - and make it as unique and complex as I can manage. Even if I fail - it will be a good learning experience. But beam shape is very important to me - and optics are not my...

    Marking Thermal Paper

I would recommend our friendly neighborhood DTR as a good source of diodes+drivers+Aixiz modules+lenses. You'll probably want to look at a diode like this - though I don't think he offers any variable supply drivers. If you really want to do research about mW of 405 vs thermal inking rates -...

    Marking Thermal Paper

ATM Receipts are thermal paper. I haven't tried - but I would imagine it would take a second or two to darken the paper, and from there, you continue to follow a slow line or shape - piggybacking off of the already darkened sections, to heat up the next. I'm not sure what type of resolution you...

Wicked Lasers - lying about tracking info

Re: Wicked Lasers Inferno Thats what I was thinking too - do you know if it's possible to get that kind of beam correction in a hobby build? I'm not sure how it's done, and I haven't found too much information about it.

Wicked Lasers - lying about tracking info

Interesting - do you know what diode they use for this? I'm guessing either the multimode Mitsu or Oclaro? I didn't know about the beam correction either.

Hey Ehg - I sent you a PM a week or two ago - did you ever see it? I'm not sure how PMs work - so sorry if I should have posted here first.

    Oclaro 700mW 638nm Diode (HL63193MG)

I like the look of these diodes -but does anyone know how to get FAC on it? I'm not a fan of that beam profile.

    Wiring help for new build

You're totally right, it would be a ton easier. But easy isn't what I'm going for. I'm not even really going for functional. I just want to have created a design that is unique, and see it come into fruition - and now I have my heart set on a button/LED tailcap. So regardless of the outcome, I'm...

    Wiring help for new build

Great - from that datasheet I linked to earlier - I got this info: It is a SPDT with 5/8" threading. Overall length (including leads) is 1.5" The diameter of the threading looks to be .6245in Thanks a lot for the help Eudaimonium. I'm getting pretty excited for this build. I know that you do...

    Wiring help for new build

Okay I touched up my render - made things more accurately sized and proportional. The more I work on these renders, the more I feel like this is actually fairly possible. And is this what you mean with the plastic in the tailcap? I like that idea a lot actually. Also, would machining that...

    Wiring help for new build

Oh I wasn't sure if that would be possible to get machined. So the inside could be plastic, while the outside metal? That's what I was thinking too. Or possible just get the ring made, just wrap plastic around it, doesn't even have to be specifically made for the ring. Also what do you think...

    Wiring help for new build

Awesome - thanks for the help. Yeah, ribbon cables is a really good idea that I hadn't thought of. I guess they wouldn't have any problem handling 5V or anything, right? Also, how would I insulate the springs from the cap (the black face on the render) or the ring from the host walls?
