I plan to get a beam expander from Sanwu in the future or maybe I will build I out of 2 lens, a diverging lens and a collimating lens. Thanks for the tip though:)

Cool info! I heard about G8 lenses before but it does not seem as ubiquitous as G7 and is also more expensive. Furthermore when I bought the laser from sanwu, they did not offer G8 lenses so I had to stick with the G7. Maybe I would swap lenses to G8 in the future?

True.Multimode laser diodes have poorer divergence that single mode diode but I was really hoping it would be lower, perhaps less than 2mrad. Maybe I would try using the G8 lens as Paul1598419 suggested

Actually the laser use a G7 lens according to Sanwu when I email them about the type of lens they used on this laser. So I am not too sure why it has terrible beam divergence despite using a G7. Any ideas why?

I understand that Relying on my calculations to determine a safe distance to point the laser at is very dangerous as I may not have accounted for all the variables. Fortunately, I did not actually point my laser at any buildings. I said that I point the laser...

For Sanwu multi mode laser, the Low power mode is 5mW or below thus is eye safe. Therefore, it is safe to use the laser as a pointing device at when set to Low power. Just make sure that you obey laser safety rules and everything should be fine.
