    Help capturing beam

i just took my SLR camera outdoors and played around with it again. I managed to snap up one decent photo. The shot was taken at night with very little lighting. The aperture was set to F/2.8 and I had the shutter speed set to bulb, and gave it roughly 30 seconds of exposure. ISO speed was set...

    Help capturing beam

I've desperately spent the last few hours trying to figure out why my laser beam won't show up on camera. In dark lighting, the red laser beam is clearly visible with the naked eye. Through my camera lens however, all I can see is the dot. My camera is an Olympus SP-500 UZ. I've tried my best...

    Killing a diode?

I'm currently running my GB diode inside a dorcy jnr without any extra caps or resistors. I assume that due to this configuration, i'm over powering and therefore slowly killing my diode. Does this mean that my laser should be gradually losing brightness and power, or would it just continue to...

What should the dot look like???

This may seem like a silly response, but are you sure your batteries arn't just dying? My dot is starting to look more and more mis-shaped, but i'm hoping that's because of my batteries losing juice, not my diode dying :-/

    3rd times a charm

So you reckon I should scrap it? It was a pain in the ass to make, and the spacer is sitting VERY tight inside the dorcy head. Only really the aixiz has a few gaps between the foil and the spacer. Good insulation? So you think it's doing more harm than good? What should I do guys :o EDIT: I...

    3rd times a charm

Okay I've resembled some means of a heatsink. I simply took a spacer, wrapped it in aluminium foil to shape it to the right size, and placed it inside the head of the torch. The aixiz module sits snug in the middle with the help from a bit more foil. Nothing original but I think it should do the...

    3rd times a charm

Well here's a picture as promised. As you can see it's fairly plain with no heatsink yet. Could someone please recommend what seems to be the most efficient way at the moment of dispersing heat? Filling the head with solder just doesn't really tickle my fancy lol. Also could someone please...

    3rd times a charm

I actualy used a heatsink clamp on my second and third diodes. The only use I really found for it though was when soldering the extended pins onto the diode. As for soldering the aixiz down onto the dorcy, there wasn't really anywhere to put it.

    Red DIY DVD laser burner.

Quick question. There's a thin rubber ring around the top, inside of the dorcy head, where the plastic lens cover pops into place. Should I remove this rubber ring when fitting my own plastic cover cut-out, or am I suppost 2 leave it in there? Thanks

    3rd times a charm

I'll get some pics up once i've customized this thing a bit or added a heatsink. It looks a bit dull as it is. Maybe tomorrow after work I might take a few photos of it in action though. Until then, keep watching the skiesss!!!

    3rd times a charm

Woooot! As of today i'm finally the proud owner of my own DIY red mini dorcy laser. I got this thing working on my third attempt, after already destroying 2 other diodes. I might post some pics up later on, but as of yet it's nothing special. My next step is to try and build some sort of...

Re: Hex DIY Red Laser - The ULTIMATE burner idea! I'm certainly impressed. I wish I had the initiative to make something like this. Keep it up ;)
