Thank you. This is what I was trying to find out. I use protected 18650 batteries everyday in flashlights without any problems. I'm only drawing 1.5 amps max.

Besides the fact you don't trust the PCB's used on batteries is there any logistical reason not to use protected batteries in lasers?

So you are saying that using any cell with protection is a bad idea in a laser? Even Sanyo, LG, Panasonic and Samsung cells that are protected?

I have some 501b's on order that I was going to use for weapon light packages. If you have the heat sinks for them I might have to convert a few into lasers.
