Some of the guides I have fished with out west look similar to that in the summer. They completely cover themselves with hoods, gloves, scarves, hats, etc. They aren't as shiny as that though. The sun toasts them pretty good when they are out on the river all day.

Most everyone I know will put some type of desiccant in their safes regardless of where they live. Rust can form for a number of reasons. It is good to pull them out every now and again and wipe them down with protectant. The rust should come off with solvent that is approved for his finish...

There should be another knurled ring closer to the button to turn the laser on that allows you to focus it. It looks like the ring that is used to close the shutter, however, it is about an inch farther back.
