    Strange afterglow in BluRay

I noted it sometimes, I think that this is caused by capacitors discharging into the diode. These diode absorbs low power, so the capacitors deliver the voltage slowly than other high powered laser diode. The change in color is because these diode have a peak of wavelenght at 405 nm but only at...

    HeNe lasers

here you can find more specific information: http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/laserhen.htm#henmag

what makes a green emit IR?

It's hard to make the correct shape, coating and polishing of the crystal...but now the price is a strange things, it is under strange economy laws ;D :'( . KTP is potassium tytanyl phosphate, nothing really expensive in terms of raw elements. You can buy on ebay those horrible chinese green...

    HeNe lasers

I forgot to say that there is a way to improve the power output of any He-Ne laser even by 30-40% or more. This laser have also an infrared laser transition(around 3000 nm) which competes against 632 nm transition. Since 3000 nm has a lower frequence than 632 nm, it is more influenced by manetic...

    HeNe lasers

Nice topic! I have 2 HeNe lasers: one 5 mw, and the other 10 mW arrived just today! The most important differences with diodes are beam quality in terms of collimation, peak of wavelenght, power output. Remember that diodes are multimode, and HeNe is TEM00. Now I'm looking for information to...

what makes a green emit IR?

It is not so difficult to make an homemade powerfull green dpss(178 mW peak power)...the total cost should be below 80$ if I remember well. I bought the pump diode on ebay from a seller that is on this forum, "snoctony". The crystals are sold glued togheter (or monolitic), so all the work is...

    question about blu ray visibility

Yes, the 405 nm(almost UV) is at one of the limit of visible light, so is the same thing of near IR in this case. Another thing is that the cornea is a bit fluorescent to several UV wavelenght, and so at 405 nm tends to absorbs a few amount of light(but it remains dangerous!), so for the eyes IR...

    5 trillion watts.....

There was several similar project in the past, but they failed because the beams must hit the target at the same time, energy, and geometrical position. Only in this way the plasma created can be confined and compressed in the right way.

How Many Diodes have you killed?

I made a stupid error connecting lm317, which resulted in a 0 ohm resistance...it was the drive for my blu-ray, but for safety reason(and really, for God sake) I tried first with a red diode..which burned immediately!! :o

AAA rechargeable lithium are they real

Re: AAA rechargeable lithium are they real   In my strange and bizarre country the lithium rechargeable AAA does not exist :'(

    Are these the correct drivers?

I use a similar driver without resistance regulation, with a resistance of 29 ohm. I suggest to insert another electrolytic capacitor in parallel before the LM317, of a capacitance bigger than the other capacitor(for example, 47 uF). If you use the laser with AC line adaptors, you should add...

    Yellow/orange laser from blu-ray

It's very strange...I'm doubtful that this is a laser beam, but the images show the opposite :o Yellow-orange laser diode doesn't exist... :o ..the problem is to find the right semi-metallic compounds with the right energy gap between them. This happens with all blu-ray? Now I don't have mine...

    New pen style 10mW blurays

nice! I made the same thing but with a red burning diode. I don't know how it is possible to run the diode with only 3 volt battery, since blu-ray works with 4,5 volt and often the current regolators requires 2 volt more to work.

    petawatt laser

It should be noted that even if the power is so high, the energy is relatively low. Don't forget that energy(in Joules) is the measure that show us the real effect of pulsed laser(at least in destructive meaning). For example, a 1MW watt CW laser is more effective than a 10^15 watt femto-second...

    Does Your PS3 Bluray Burn?

Your diode is from a "normal" PS3 sled(18 mW max)? I read everywhere that the maximum current for a decent lifetime is threshold current+10, so 50 mA seems very high, although is a very interesting experiment. 8-) Mistakenly the first time I was running mine at 46 mA, but later I reduce it to...
