    Dangerous Laser, Need 101ing!

I wouldn't say IR filters are unnecessary. For example, there's this: http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/cheap-ebay-532nm-laser-pen-ir-leakage-86962.html Yes, my ebay 5mW pen actually outputs 40mw. But 35mW of that is IR. IR is not good for the eyes and should be filtered. -Bob

    DragonLaser 1W, Truth revealed

I have emphasized my issues with your commentary. Why do you let a young child spend hours with a powerful laser? I hope you also bought safety glasses and your son, and you, put them to use. Powerful lasers , especially blue ones, are not toys. -Bob

Slowest/Longest time to become a veteran (1000 posts)

The interest is there, definitely. But for some strange reason I am not able to spend as much time as I would like on the board. Maybe some day in the forseeable future, but not now. I visit frequently, but just don't post much. I'm not one for idle chit chat. It was fun building my LPM and...

Slowest/Longest time to become a veteran (1000 posts)

Congrats! But, I think I'm on track to break your record. ;) Over your 7 year history you've averaged 0.37 post per day. I've been here since November of 2013 and I'm averaging 0.07 posts per day, which means I will hit 1000 posts in, oh, maybe 37 years. I just don't have much to say. :D -Bob

Map of Members with Access to Laser Power Meters

I'm not online much lately, working 80+ hours at two jobs will do that, but I still have, and use, the Ophir based, Peregrine driven LPM I put together a little while ago. I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio. :) -Bob

What Age Is Ok To Own High Power Lasers

Hell, I'm 53 and I bought a 3W 445nm from Rick Trent. I probably shouldn't have. ;) Seriously, I don't think age is an accurate indication of anything. If someone is aware enough of the dangers and has the respect for the equipment, age doesn't matter. -Bob

    Dust cover for Ophir heads

I've not done acrylic and this was my first kydex. With the kydex there's that point where too much heat makes it almost gel like and very unstable. I used the low heat setting and tried not to overheat it. You can see it start to flex and that's when I removed the heat and started to bend. I...

    Dust cover for Ophir heads

I'm bringing this back to life because it got a little off topic about 3D printers and I wanted to show what can be done with a $5.00 piece of Kydex from ebay, a box knife and a heat gun: :) -Bob

    O-like shipping/customs

I went with the cheapest method of shipping when I purchased the 250mW red Power Rock. No issues at all. Took maybe 3 to 4 weeks to arrive. -Bob

    AliExpress 100mW 532nm surprise

I'm well aware of Jerry and his actions on the site. He had what I needed/wanted and I felt it was a decent price. I could have built it myself, but I no longer have as much free time as I used to so it's easier for me to assemble pre-built components. Same thing with the Isis board. I could...

    AliExpress 100mW 532nm surprise

The Ophir is a 1mV = 1mW sensor, correct? I looked but I could not find any specs on the resolution of the device. The VM display I used is this one: Yellow LED 5 Digit DC 0 4 3000 33 000V Digital Voltmeter Voltage Meter Car Panel | eBay It's a 5 digit 0V to 33V display. As shown in the...

    AliExpress 100mW 532nm surprise

    I read it this way: 1.0000v = 1W 0.9999v = 999.9mW . . . 0.1000v = 100.0mW 0.0100v = 10.0mW 0.0010v = 1.0mW 0.0001v = 0.1mW So, the 0.0988 is 98.8mW, or are you saying my 100mW greenie is only 9.88mW or is it 988mW? -Bob

    IR filtering a 50mw

I have a 40mW 532nm ebay pen that has 35mW of IR leakage. Whether that's an issue is the topic of many debates. You can't assume because the overall output is small the amount of IR will be small also. It's not proportional. -Bob

    Dust cover for Ophir heads

I was thinking of something similar out of kydex. Just heat and bend. I have one of Mrcrouse's excellent total coverage heatsinks for mine. My thought was to have a small tab the would ride on the fin of the heatsink and wrap around the front of the Ophir. I'm not sophisticated enough to...
