I didnt see any shape afterwards. All that happened was the dot was on a matt black surface and the material had crumpled at the front of the diode,So when it powered up the dot was right in front of the module and out the corner of my eye i saw the color so immidietly shut it off. I just worry...

I know i should man up lol, I have a friend who is a doctor who told me to be careful with it. Apparently it doesn't take much to fry your eye lol. i guess I am a bit paranoid at the best of times.

Yer the diode still worked fine lol. I donat have a power meter but just running it at its 300mw rating so far.

Pin-outs are straight forward if the diode is on side with the unused pin facing out to the right, the top pin is positive. The unused pin is the one that is just a locator it is part of the chassis.

I have that diode in my laser, i dont have a power metre to test it but havent had any problems with it. If you get the part number let me know please. Cheers

In my defense any input voltage within reson of voltage supplied by a battery pack, 40v is much higher than one would expect to have in a hand held laser.

Thats interesting, thanks. Iv used the LM317 regulator and calculated the resitors to creat a 4.2v output to the diode. Im going to test it tomorow so ill let you know if it goes up in smoke lol.

How do the drivers provide impedence, if anyone could give me a detailed explanation of the driver circuit i will have a go at building one. Cheers

Thats a good point lol, i just thought i would make one. Theoretically you just need to maintain a steady voltage to the diode. i have a 5 v regulator with a voltage divider bias, using a variable resistor for the negative side of the divider and another resistor to ensure its never short to...

I didnt acctually hit it with a hammer i put a screw driver against that back of it and hit the screw driver with my hand.
