Hi, i found something like this in my old laser printer, i test it with an IR diode and it seems to work... but at 150mA only burns plastic tape any suggestions?

i used the IR diode from an old CD-RW with an optic module from a laser printer, at 150mA it burn plastic tape, but don't burn a match, very little power (and at 250mA died :( whyy??) and the diode wasn't 100% IR, is red too, i saw it!!! (why???) i used something like this
