Do you this that heatsink would be alright for the module? Or would the LM317 need some kind of heat sink too? I've read they're downside is that they release excess energy as heat..

Thanks Envy, I definitely agree. Much nicer on the wallet too! I was hoping I'd be good with DTR's module as-is. If not I was either buying this from ebay or planning on taking these 2'' aluminum discs i came across in my garage and taking a drill press to them.

Hello, I'm working on assembling my first laser and was wondering if you have the "300mW 650nm Single Mode Diode In Copper Module W/Leads & Acrylic Lens" in stock? Also, if so would this acrylic lens be sufficient or should I invest in a glass focusing lens? Thank you. -Raw

Sounds like a safer route by far. Do you have any experience with DTR's shop? They've got a 650nm with a copper housing for $21(I believe with s/h incl.), I'm not sure how I feel about the acrylic yet but that seems fair. Just trying to find a few site reviews before I take the plunge.
