advice about buying a violet laser?

Any thoughts on how Blord's work stacks up to a competently-assembled kit using survivallaser.com's hosts (S4 kit) and a S06J 12X 405 diode from DTR's shop? I've built a 445nm laser using the same host with a diode from DTR, and sticking it through a 10x beam expander is really something to see...

I'm after a clean beam - what to look for?

Originally, no. I bought the 3-element lens I'm using now from DTR's Laser Shop and Diode Emporium. I suspect that if you send the owner an email (or a forum PM), he'll be able to answer with more specificity. https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/

ZeroLaser, no, I purchased my parts from another vendor.

I'm after a clean beam - what to look for?

ZeroLaser, I can't say for sure as I haven't taken photos of the dot from my 445nm laser with the 3-element lens and my safety goggles may be blocking the light from any halo. However, that should mean that the halo is faint and not a significant loss from the main beam. Even with the loss of...

Dust and safety covers or caps for lasers

wannaburnstuff, thanks for your offer; however, I have an order inbound that includes a 10-pack of extended focus rings that will fit the cap which came with the host. I'll also be fashioning an extra cap out of scavenged container lids and fitting it with some layers of good ol' electrical...

Dust and safety covers or caps for lasers

I'm not sure what you were referencing on the Aixiz site... the "10 Pack of Metal mounting Rings for 8mm Modules", maybe? http://www.aixiz.com/store/product_info.php/cPath/28/products_id/377 It looks like the rings aren't threaded from the picture, but otherwise looks to be a solution to use...

Dust and safety covers or caps for lasers

Be careful what you wish for! Seems my camera didn't want to cooperate with me over macro mode. Thanks for the idea, LaZeRz - I *just* threw out a container with a lid that I could have fitted to make a good host cover. This isn't boding well for my packratitus.

Dust and safety covers or caps for lasers

I'm looking for ideas on materials for DIY dust and safety covers for handheld lasers. The safety cap which came with the host I'm using for a 2W laser is a silicone rubber cap that does not fit the new lens I've installed. I'm not keen on my normal go-to choice of black electrical tape...

I'm after a clean beam - what to look for?

Thanks for all the advice! I've got a 3-element lens coming to try with the 445nm build, as well as a focusable beam expander to enable projecting the focal point out quite a bit farther. I sense a new 405nm build with a single-mode bluray diode is probably not too far off, either!

I'm after a clean beam - what to look for?

Dot profile is what I'm specifically looking to improve; the beam looks tight and narrow when viewing a picture of it (I can't see the beam when wearing my safety goggles), but the power of the beam is diffused throughout its "large" cross section/dot at three meters. I may just need to start...

I'm after a clean beam - what to look for?

After having a lot of fun with <5mw red lasers, I recently put together a focusable high power blue laser. Sad to say, I was disappointed in the properties of the beam, with the spot at ~10mm by 25mm at only three meters at its best focus. It seems I need more information before acquiring a new...
