    Duty Cycle of Handheld Greenies?

    I take 100/10 as 100 seconds on, 10 seconds off. Thanks. =D

    Duty Cycle of Handheld Greenies?

I've read a lot that the main disadvantage of pens is that they have a duty cycle of only a couple of minutes, and that the handheld torches have a longer duty cycle, or none at all. But I couldn't find anywhere exactly what the duty cycle would be. I have a 50mW O-Like green on the way, and I...

    O-Like Shipping

I just ordered a 50mW green from Suzie, it's on it's way to me (in Australia) now. It should get here in about 3 days - I'll let you know whether it's here or not by then. (She sent the batteries and caps in a separate package for $4.00 extra shipping)

No response from O-Like (Susie) since payment

Yeah, I was in pretty much the same boat until yesterday - ordered and payed about two weeks ago, and she didn't get back to me until about 3pm (my time =D) yesterday, saying that she sent it on Saturday. So all is well. And if there was indeed a holiday, then I feel even more special, since...

The eye's sensitivity to brightness *Read*

My favorite way of intuitively understanding this sort of thing is looking at sound intensity. A sound of 200dB will be incredibly unhealthy, probably fatal. A sound of 50dB is roughly equal to moderate ambient noise, nothing loud, or even disturbing. So, if you have four speakers, each playing...

Colored Shadows: Wave Interference is a Good Thing

Re: Colored Shadows: Wave Interference is a Good T Seconded. Simplified, if you had two lights, one red and one blue, you'll get three colors of shadow - red, blue, and black. That's because the red light is being cut out in one section, but the blue light isn't (hence the blue shadow), the...

    A bit confused...

You don't NEED a heatsink, but if you have one, you can run your diode at a higher power without shortening its lifespan. Running say, a PHR diode at 150mW is doable, but it will die, and fast. In terms of which to use, and how to get one, it really depends on what you're going to use as a host...

Can i use as a test load

From what I understand, 1N4001 diodes are the done thing. But a dummy load is better. But if you happen to have some diodes and a 1ohm resistor sitting around (like I do =D), then that should work just fine.

    first laser

Suggestion: If you're going to build your first laser from scratch, I suggest you get a cheap diode, more specifically, a PHR803T diode. They're (comparatively) dirt cheap, so if you wreck it, you're down $10, and at about 120mW with heatsinking/good lens etc, have enough burning power to at...

    52x CD-RW or 20x DVD-RW?

Sweet, thanks! *grins evilly at the DVD burner*

    52x CD-RW or 20x DVD-RW?

Heya, My [user]name is Mptp, and for now, I'll probably stick to using that. =D I've been lurking these forums for a while now, learning what I can, and now it's time to post, I guess. I hate to make my first post as a request, but I've done a little reading, and I doubt that I'll be able to...
