Does anyone know where I can get a 1W red laser module w/ diode and optics to convert the dot into a line? The purpose of this setup will be to cut 1" diameter foam tubes. If this laser will not be powerful enough to cut the tube, please let me know. I'm just not sure if it will be powerful...

I think the best way for me to figure everything out is experiment with different products and setups. Nothing can be substituted for experience :thanks:

Do you think a 100mW would produce a good beam in a well lit room? Safety is number 1, especially in a room filled with people, so I dont want it to be too powerful. However, having an amazing beam is also important to draw everyone in.

I am planning to present on lasers and laser safety, and want to have a fun and amazing presentation. Of course, I really want to use a 500mW green, but I have never owned one of that power. I will be using a laser trap I made, which seems to do a decent job at trapping the light. Also does...

Right now Im really tempted to just buy a green laser and present, but that would take most of the fun out of the project.

Thanks guys, Can anyone suggest to me a good kit that is the same or lower price? Beam visibility is very important to me, but I hear green lasers are difficult to build with the crystal. I will be sure to talk about laser safety!!

I think I will just end up taking a video because lasers in school is a bad idea in itself.
