Thats pretty neat! When you turn it on, is it hit instantainiously with 200mA? The reason I ask, I was thinking a "soft on" circuit, where the current ramps up, may help it last at higher settings. One never knows how much their particular diode will handle, untill they milk their frog ;)

Thats a good one :D I bought two at a great price ($23. shipped) just for the open can diodes. I put them back together properly, I wonder if they would still play a movie or read data? That would be funny if we all sent them back, RMA , on fri. sept. 19 ;D j/k

Club newbie, the old DIY test load mod, I belong to another club also, the burned up test load made from a blown diode :o

If your compelled to have an adjustable laser (it sounds like a neat idea) give it a try on a cheap $16. diode. It may work ok if the potintiometer is a quality component that has a smooth & even, linear adjustment through its range. Hook it up to your driver to first observe it's output...

Welcome to LPF, So now that you made yourself a test load out of your laser diode, you can use it to re-check the current supplied by your driver. maybe not :-[

Warm up (heat) your aluminum heatsink & then slide in a cold (refrigerated) Aixis module. Maybe use a small amount of arctic silver as a lubricant if need be.
