Thanks.... So it seems like I'll have to go for a 808nm FAP in the range of 20-40 watt then if the 2 watt blue ones are not able to poke a hole in the paper in a reasonable timeframe. For hole size I'd say that 1.5mm 1/16" would be good enough. Ok, back to the drawingboard for this idea then :)

I'm more or less a total noob when it comes to high powered lasers. The last time I actually used a laser (except for the regular cheap laser pointers) was like 30 years ago when I purchased a dammned expensive 5 mW Melles-Griot He-Ne and was playing around with making holographic images. But...
