    Newegg 12x deal

in that case I'm glad I asked! Thanks.

    Newegg 12x deal

Hey everyone. I haven't been here in a while, but I got an email form newegg just now and they have all blu-ray drives 10% off! That makes THIS 12X drive only $59 until the 13th! I just wanted to make sure that this is actually a good 12X before dropping the cash on it, but it sounds good to...

    LG 24x DVD Drive

Wow! My BR isn't that powerful. If I run the focus up to about an inch it will light matches on a fresh battery, or on skin it will give a sharp, pinching feeling but it will go away as soon as you remove the laser. I also heard that they are using the 405nm range of lasers medically too...

    LG 24x DVD Drive

I ended up just soldering it to one pad.I couldn't remember how I did it with my BR diode. For some reason I thought it was supposed to go in the middle... Anyway, I've been playing with this thing for a little while now. I have it set to about 350mA and it is unbelievably bright! I'll...

    LG 24x DVD Drive

Nevermind, I found it out here http://laserpointerforums.com/f50/pin-out-diagram-lpc-815-a-36132.html What pad should the positive be soldered to on the rkstr driver? If it is soldered to the LD pad, then the unused pin wouldn't be centered between the two pads on the other side if the...

    LG 24x DVD Drive

OK, I just opened it up. It is a LOC diode. Just to be clear, looking down on it with the ground pin on top, is the positive (LD) on the left or right on these?

    LG 24x DVD Drive

I'm not TOO worried about power, just as long as it is reasonably better than my BR burner.

    LG 24x DVD Drive

I'll try and post some when I get the drive. Or if there is a better drive to gut, then I'll just put this one in my computer... I've been wanting to get a SATA one anyway :yh: I'm just looking to build myself a good burner! I have a few drivers, and aixiz modules laying around, so all I need...

    LG 24x DVD Drive

I have one of these on its way. Can anyone tell me a good current to set the driver to for its DVD diode? What is a rough estimate of the mW rating? Thanks

Optical Trapping - Real Laser Tractor Beams

This is the coolest freaking thing ever! I just tried it with my blu-ray in a standard axiz housing with plastic lens. Most of the time it is like a short beam, maybe a mm long but sometimes I can get it into a point. THIS IS SO COOL!:D

Focusing for illumination, not a beam.

~50mw IR diodes are used for illumination for the two units I posted pictures of. They are very bright seen through a NVD.

Focusing for illumination, not a beam.

Yes, you got it:yh:That's what I was worried about with the lens. Having the lens attached is looking more and more like my only option. I wonder how they do it?

Focusing for illumination, not a beam.

Infrared illumination for night vision. It will be mounted on a rifle, so it needs to be light, compact, and weatherproof. Here are some links to pictures of similar units to what I will be making: http://tnvc.com/images/item_pages/large_pics/laser_systems/dbala2_7.swf...

Focusing for illumination, not a beam.

Yes, that makes sense, but if I run the focus in and out, then wouldn't that change the point of aim? Or is there some kind of fancy lens I'm not aware of...?

Focusing for illumination, not a beam.

All of the laser components and electronics will be in a sealed, waterproof box. The illuminator can be aimed about a degree to alter where it is pointing. The focus for the illuminator needs to be able to be adjusted from the outside of the sealed box. To do this I was just going to have the...
