5mw is a bit small. I use 1mw when it's a single beam. Divide that into 100 beams from the diffraction grating and you can barely see it in the dark 5 feet away. I figure 30mw divided by 100 beams is quite safe. I tried a green 30 on myself first. It was bright but only momentarily, about as...
