I was messing around with this laser again, and pulled off the adjustable lens and was shining the wide beam at the floor and noticed something odd. There were 2 points of focus! I looked down inside and saw the crappy plastic lens that was hot glued on to the module just above the diode and...
Alright I was able to pull the cap off of the laser and revealed the focus assembly. Over a half hour period I attempted to get the beam to tighten up, but was only marginally successful. I was able to take the beam from 1cm at 3.1m to 8mm at the same distance but could not get it any tighter...
Sorry i mis-stated myself it was 88RMB (thats yaun) or about $13. I had a decent 90mW laser some years back and used it ignite some fireworks fuses, so I figured that this wasn't near 300mW.
