Re: N00b question, how many mA does a DVD diod Sounds good to me, thanks.

Desoldering, Red Vs. I.R. Can heat kill the diode?

I have desoldered many IR diodes with no damage done... The first high powered red I desoldered became a 5mW at some point during the process. Now, I do know that it is well possible that my circuit killed the diode, because the filtering capacitor (3300uf) was charged due to my failure to turn...

    Goggles for green laser

Some well made green lasers have an IR filter between the diode and the collimating lens so that no IR escapes, so IR may or may not be an issue...

    Another update on the I.R.

I finally got it out of its original housing and put in in a collimating lens housing. Teh Win!

Ok, here's what I got so far...

No specs, got it out of a defective burner I snagged from craigslist.

Ok, here's what I got so far...

Can see a very dim red glow when the lights are out, mostly invisible though. I have an IR camera, which is how I got that photo.

Ok, here's what I got so far...

    Infrared, no collimating lens yet.

Re: N00b question, how many mA does a DVD diode ne Sorry, it's just that someone took the time to reply to my post and *imply* that they had an answer to my question, only to give me no real information or even a link, I felt insulted, because we all KNOW it takes 5 hours of grueling labour to...
