Jay, the host looks superb! Between getting some PV cells soldered on to a solar receiver the past few days I've finally found enough time to put the host together and snap some pictures: Loving the easy focus knob - it's a bit loose but that just makes it easier to adjust the focus...

Re: 5mW 405nM $9 on eBay I just got mine today and they're the same way. It's not a dud, it seems that is how most of these simple 405's look off of a non-fluorescent surface. I've heard it has mostly to do with how close to UV it is - it's almost as if you can't quite focus your eye's on the...

Jayrob, I love this DIY design. I've always understood the optics end of handhelds, but never thought the electrical end of assembling could be made to be as simple as sodering some wires to a diode. I think starting with this is a safe bet for me and other beginners. :beer:
