Do you own a laser that has lasted working fine?

Thanks, I'm on it! Any comments on commercial stuff already built will be welcome. DIY is my preferred way, I'm more sure on the results as I know how everything is wired and why, but I'm looking on a more already built ready for use solution to save time that I can't keep investing.

Do you own a laser that has lasted working fine?

I knew it, but wanted to try, as other many threads the main questions are always left unanswered, a heavy load of avoidance around. Yes the forum is free, I'm not demanding an answer, but as most threads, if it's not about talking the already built lasers, it's to say "is dangerous you can go...

Do you own a laser that has lasted working fine?

Thank you and I agree, but at this point I'm not interested on doing forensics, I'm just about to buy a car (but it's a laser), I can't put together all by myself data about brands and models unless I buy and test each one. The thing on buying a product is using it, not investing time on beta...

Do you own a laser that has lasted working fine?

Hi there, been reading and finding many testimonials having mixed experiences on commercial laser engraving products (laser modules I mean), after a bit of research it seems like a quality problem, some are happy, some are not: because some lasers just died without any reason (no heatsink...

Educative: why are IR laser diodes so dangerous?

Hi there, been researching but can't find exactly "detailed" information. Why are IR lasers, or near IR laser diodes so dangerous? Please, let's try to make it educative. Why the thread: let's say a few laser forums have 10,000 words on the threads, well, for the sake of this example we could...

Semi transparent cone for engraving laser?

Thank you, I have a lot now to research.

Semi transparent cone for engraving laser?

Thanks, will check on that, I have challenges on getting some stuff locally, some gets really expensive when ordered (whoa, it's already expensive on the site listing price), but this is really helpful. I'm finding references to this matter as "hot filters" and seeing some "common" windows...

Semi transparent cone for engraving laser?

yes, thanks I know I need special materials to block IR, thanks for the link, will research on that (I don't live on the US, so that's an extra step to get it). A safety opinion: I don't need to see in detail what's going on while engraving, just a bit, why? I'm just part of the equation...

Semi transparent cone for engraving laser?

Hi, there is a second machine I'm building, alaser engraver. This one will have a IR laser that is on it's way. IR is invisible but harmful etc, so, safety measures should be taken. I want to do this: For THIS machine I have two options: 1. Opaque plastic cone to protect skin and specially...

Protective / blocking materials? laser safety

thanks, that's what I was thinking actually, this way the laser will cut, reach the bed (the glass) and reach the bottom of the cnc not having any reflection to anyone. Sounds to me the safest way. Did some research and found multiple articles, one saying the darker the material, the less IR...

Protective / blocking materials? laser safety

The size is 13" x 18" Max weight? perhaps 1.5lbs, that's for engraving wood As for cutting, it will be 5mm maximum depth (the goal is to cut 2 sheets of foam at the same time)

Protective / blocking materials? laser safety

Eh.. NO, this is not about DIY safety glasses, but yes it is about safety in general. I built my laser + cnc, works with a DVD diode (not as strong as I would like to, engraves and cut only dark material). Just ordered some powerful lasers (IR) stated as "useful for burning", and one violet...

30mw green laser is burning (pulses question)

So, looking back and comparing my findings, the LM317 gives X voltage at constant current (ma) that makes sense, but the original green laser driver gives ok voltage AND very high ma, I have two cheap multimeters and it's out of range, I can't measure it. Decided to try a simple 555 timer...

30mw green laser is burning (pulses question)

already did it, results below thanks thanks thanks Ok, using the stock driver and the green laser connected and beaming: I get 1.83V out, and... out of range ma!!! I have two cheap multimeters but enough to measure my LM317 driver, it seems the driver outputs a lot of current with love...

30mw green laser is burning (pulses question)

Here is the original driver, back and front and the laser removed from the pen I hope the above images serve for something, the pen used 2AAA batteries originally 3V from 2AAA, but it has 3 pins, each for each wire on the diode, tried connecting back the laser using only two cables (hoping...
