No, i didn't look into it. Why would i do that. Blinding light was an exaggeration. The reason i hooked it up to the 3 volts was because it was my first harvest and wanted to make sure i had the right diode because i couldn't find any info on the web on how to do it or by asking you guys. And...

To late, i have just the diode, no housing and hooked it up to my " Electronics Learning Lab"! all i got at 3 volts was diffused but blinding red light. I think i killed the diode. Then i decided to put it up to 9 volts, 6 AA batteries. And it shined for like 50 seconds were i couldn't look...

Hey guys, how would i tell what lead is the vout and what lead is the Vin on a potentiometer? Also, what would be a good battery to test my diode with?

1.5 volts??? i don't think so.

You could always remove the lens and then add a new one externally but that would be a bit of a stretch.

I have recently tried to harvest a diode from a benq DVD burner and i have two semi-identical diodes. I understand one emits IR and one emits red light but i can not find a way to identify them. I have tried to hook up a AAA battery but i cant get the contacts to touch right and it wont emit...

Also, will the axis laser housing remove enough heat?

i understand that mw and ma's are different but how? is one more powerful than the other. i have read stories about people mixing up the two and i don't want one. And about the water cooling i am going to attempt that later for the soul purpose of making it awesome and increasing the life.
