I just saw the video. It blew my mind. I actually wanted to post this here right away, then I thought hey let's use the search function. Turns out two threads already existed. I figured you guys would know about this. Maybe one day this can be done in actual colour. That'd be so cool.

Think again, why would someone with the knowledge and skill of building a portable CO2 laser mark your glass door with an x? It's probably been some douche who thought your door needed this, or some freak accident scratch.

For $50 I'd do that in an instant. The host looks so cool, and you can expect at least 100mW. That's a lot for a green laser, it'll be very bright.

As said before, I think the most logical reason is that most laser 'cases' weren't intended to house lasers in the first place. Most people here put lasers in the cases of flashlights or other cases they can easily get their hands on those. The word 'host' is then probably used more because of...

I think it's such a darn shame that people that buy/get expensive equipment find it necessary to break said equipment in retarded ways.

I've always found these kind of things such a waste. When something is brand new, the first guys that get their hands on it just have to find a great way of destroying it.

I would like to see this on an actual piece of charcoal as well. Make a setup so the beam and the charcoal are held perfectly still, it'd be much easier to see. ;)

That's pretty special, I had no idea that these kinds of setups would allow you to control the pulses of the laser. It's really too bad that the song gets horribly out of sync at the end, but well, who cares...?

Hot damn, that is one freaky diode indeed! How do you even find these anomalies in a series of diodes? You just push a lot of current through and see which survive?

It has always baffled me for the sellers to even need photoshopping (or MS Paint for that matter) to add a beam to the operational end of the laser. It looks so cheap to do so.

Gee, you could have done some minor research though. Laser diodes are very similar to normal light emitting diodes, apart from their output, wattage, voltage, and current. They generate lots of excess heat you need to get away from them as fast as possible. And as an electrician, you should know...
