What are you going to use for an objective? If you are using a lens to focus the beam, make sure you run dry air over the lens to keep smoke and moisture off.

You should consider making laser props for the movie industry.

You can use a tungsten screen. Hit it with the smoke from a candle to give it some carbon black. The tungsten won't melt. It has a lot of advantages. I think it's used as a beam dump for CO2 lasers.
