Just to update, I got a reply back from DragonLasers. They will only supply a complete module including the driver for the same price as a complete pointer, $199! :o Any other possible sources for the diode ? Why do they use the odd size ?

Is there any simple way to light the cathode filament to confirm that it is not faulty ? The PSU I am using is a JDSU 2210U-SL. This seems to work as expected, with the correct jumpers, when I turn the key the PSU fan kicks in, at this point my DMM shows no voltage across the cathode terminals...
