Sorry I have not been checking messages! The laser in the link appears to be the same as the one I have. Since I have purchased the laser, there has been some increase in the divergence when focused to infinity but still very good performance considering the price.

Interesting. Could be useful under certain conditions, say, a tailings pond? A properly built scanner could reduce the number of deaths (of birds) due to oil and chemical ponds. The acoustic cannons are fairly annoying in the oil sands.

The Russians did this as a means of propulsion. I believe it was also very quiet. I know it's true because Sean Connery wouldn't lie.

Given the context of this thread, I feel it's a valid warning. The waterproof red laser from O-Like comes with an 18650 rechargeable lithium battery. I don't care who the battery comes from, I will test each on a meter to ensure it isn't under 2.75v. Even expensive AWs can experience protection...

Not exactly sure what batteries came with your laser but, as a general rule, you should not leave charging batteries unattended. At the very least, make sure they are on a non combustible surface under a smoke alarm. I'm also into nice flashlights (where I hear most battery horror stories) and...

My favorite two lasers are in Perkin Elmer FTIR and UV/Vis spectrometers. The former was used to measure combustion products in diesel engine oil and the latter for identifying and quantifying pharmaceutical drugs and nutritional ingredients. Hope to have my own UV/Vis one day!
