    Osram PL450B Handheld Build

Hey, sorry for the late reply, but I had to also buy laser safety glasses, 18650 rechargable batteries (and charger) along with the host and related components. The laser module (Osram PL450B W/ Driver and 3 Element Glass Lens) costs $77 shipped, the host and DIY contact board costs around...

    Osram PL450B Handheld Build

@DTR Thanks for the info, I updated the main post accordingly. As for the rest of you, thanks for the replies! I can't wait to build more in the future. Perhaps a 520nm build?

    Osram PL450B Handheld Build

I will apologize in advance, my phone doesn't really take great photos :X I have the laser being driven at 200mA, using a glass lens, the estimated energy output of the laser should be around 160mW - 180mW So here's an overview of the build... I started by purchasing these: Stainless...

Help - Osram PL450B DIY Build Questions

Hello everyone. I am planning to make my own DIY build using the Osram PL450B Laser Diode, but I have a few questions that hopefully can be answered. First off, I'm gonna let you know that I'm still sort of new to lasers. I have built a 405nm PHR laser a few years back, as well as a red laser...

16X DVD RW Red Laser Diode Questions

Yeah I hear ya. Oh I cranked it to 210mA (5.9 ohms of resistance across the Adj and vOut pins of the LM317) and it lights matches once again! I run it for about 15 seconds and I feel the module getting warmish so I will try to get a heat sinking solution and/or use short duty cycles...

16X DVD RW Red Laser Diode Questions

Interesting. I will try to turn it up to like 210 mA or so. I know it's capable of more though because it was stronger than it is now, I just don't want to push it too far. Maybe the damage was already done and the diode is now partially broken? I don't know. Thanks though. I'd still like to...

16X DVD RW Red Laser Diode Questions

What do you think of the situation? Was this a problem with my circuit or power supply? I have killed diodes in the past, and it seems that once they dim, or fail to light, they don't come back from that. This seems like it works just as well, but like I said, I tuned it down from 250 mA to 200...

16X DVD RW Red Laser Diode Questions

The AxiZ housing alone isn't going to absorb the heat? I didn't mention this, but I turn it off when I feel the module is getting the slightest bit warm.

Oh crap I think I have accidentally posted this in the wrong section. If someone can move it, I'll be really thankful.

16X DVD RW Red Laser Diode Questions

Hello everyone. I'm still very new to making lasers, I have only built a few of them, and all of them have died due to some stupid noob mistake I have made. Anyways I'm gonna be straight to the point: I have extracted a Diode from a Sony DRU-820A (IDE) 16x DVD RW Drive and installed it into an...

Alright thanks. I will let you know how it turns out. Added rep for helping me.

    My PHR's Keep Dying...

So what mA should I run the laser at, and if so how long should my duty cycles be?

    My PHR's Keep Dying...

Hey everyone, I have been inactive in the forums for a while, but every now and then, I get a sudden interest in lasers. So, as the title states, I am not very experienced with lasers, ugh honestly I never want to shell out extra money to build a more powerful laser until I can get a PHR to last...

Wooden Host - Good Idea or Bad Idea?

I know that they take up to 30V. I was talking about maximum amp input.

Wooden Host - Good Idea or Bad Idea?

well, I do plan on shoving a simple LM317 driver in there, so a 9v batt works, but short lived. Does the LM317 have a max amp input? because I read that those CR123's have a lot of mA's... Correct me if I'm wrong.
