Anyone know what's up with Tinker Lasers?

It worked out in the end, but I don't think I'll be making any more orders. It would have been better if they had kept me informed. They could have said "Sorry, we're waiting for the items to arrive from China, and they're all on holiday now celebrating the lunar new year." Instead I was left...

Anyone know what's up with Tinker Lasers?

Well I did finally receive my order. I allowed some extra time, and sent a few more emails, and they finally were shipped and delivered, with a couple of bonus items included. I don't know what's gone wrong at Tinker HQ. It has the feeling of a one man show, where that man's life has fallen...

Anyone know what's up with Tinker Lasers?

I've had about enough of Tinker. In late November I ordered their Green Demon and Blue Demon for their Black Friday sale. A couple of weeks went by before they generated a shipping label, but then nothing ever shipped out. I sent three email inquiries, and received one response about a week...

    WTB 589nm 50mW+ handheld

Thanks. I actually found one recently, a DL Spartan came up on eBay and I made sure to swoop in right away and grab it. It shipped from the UK to the US without any trouble. Unfortunately it's a bit unstable. I can see it mode hopping, and the LPM shows the output ranging from ~10 to 40mW...

    WTB 589nm 50mW+ handheld

Thanks for your replies all. Yeah, I want one that looks consistently yellow/golden to my eyes while wearing my glasses that suffer from refraction if I look anywhere but in the center of the lenses. Back in 2012 (I think) I saw a Ghostland Observatory show where they had two laser scanners...

    WTB 589nm 50mW+ handheld

I've been wanting one for a long time, and the supply situation seems to only be getting worse. I've seen the 5mW pen for sale on aliexpress, but if I'm going to buy one, I really want something brighter than 5mW. So I thought I'd post here, asking if anyone wants to sell theirs. Maybe you...

    375nm USHIO 200mW HL37013MG Diode

I'm interested in one of these. I've sent a PM with my address.

    Seeking tips on de-canning LDs

Well, maybe collimation wasn't the right term to use. You know how the beam from a common 445 will tend to diverge more than one from a single-mode LDs due to it's larger emitter? Removing the can seems to increase that effect a good bit.

    Seeking tips on de-canning LDs

Well, the drill method worked pretty well for me. I used a single-edged razor blade to make the cut. I first practiced on a 445 that was LED'd, and it still lit up afterward. Then I did the same on a 445 that had a smudged/scratched window. Beforehand I measured 890mW from it. Afterward it...

FS: Heavy Duty test load kit 3000mA $10

Yes, the 2V range is appropriate for setting the current up to 2A. For higher currents you should use the next range up.

    Seeking tips on de-canning LDs

I assume that the idea is to weaken the metal, but not actually penetrate it with the blade (and thus not contaminate the semiconductor with metal dust), yes? I suppose I should just try it. I have some that are truly dead that I could use for practice.

    Seeking tips on de-canning LDs

I apologize if this has already been covered somewhere I have not yet looked. I have seen a number of posts talking about de-canning laser diodes, but not much said about the actual process. I have a number of LDs laying around (mostly 445s and 405s) that have damaged cans or windows that I...

Why does the current increase when you run 2x flexdrive's in parallel?

That's the essence of it. A flexdrive measures the amount of current flowing through it, and will adjust it's output voltage up or down (within it's limits) as needed to maintain a constant amount of current. A laser diode will consume all the current you can feed it until it fries, if given...
