    Watts vs Focus for Engraving

For anyone else looking for looking into this subject, the best collection of information I've found thus far can be found here: Diodes for cutting wood?

    Watts vs Focus for Engraving

Thanks DTR, funny enough I started reading that thread before I posted, but stopped at the third page when it didn't seem to be going in the direction I needed. While the post didn't answer my question, it has helped a little and given me a few more things to look up. Thanks for the help!

    Watts vs Focus for Engraving

Hi, I started building a simple XY plotter to do some laser engraving and limited cutting. While in a rush to get the parts I needed shipped, I ordered a NUBM44 as it seemed to he the highest power laser diode that was reasonably available. (More WATTS equals More GOODER!) Now that I’ve slowed...

It hasn't arrived yet, but the BlackBuck 8a. Thanks a lot for your help. I really do appreciate you taking the time for a newbie like me. I'm building an etcher and thought the controlling the plotter would be the difficult part. Learning about lasers has been the best port of the project so...

I guess I just thermal epoxy it to the back of the diode? Doing that makes the most sense to me, but I haven't seen it described anywhere. Before I attach one to this $100 diode I'd like to be sure... Looks like a real tight fit, wires and thermister. Thanks for any help! Thermistor...

    Fallen down the rabbit hole...

I haven't bought one... but $350 is isnsane, my spare parts build is almost near that amount... and it's 1/10 of the price of a glowforge.

    Fallen down the rabbit hole...

... and I'm not sure I'm coming back. I started a laser engraver build because I had some extra parts laying around. The laser originally was kind of an uninteresting part, just a high tech saw really. Now it's the primary part of the project that I'm focusing one (see what I did there?)...
