Any recommendations on an UV LED flashlight ?

I am considering buying an UV LED flashlight and would appreciate any recommendations anyone might have.

I need to keep the cost low as right now my "hobby budget" is somewhat limited and there are other purchases I might keep to keep some funds available for also.

(I'd like to keep the cost under $10 if possible, or at least under $15)

I would like one that is fairly good at causing things that are flourescent under UV light to really glow well.

While I would prefer one that uses "C" or "D" batteries, ones that use "AA" or "AAA" would be ok, I just don't want to have to mess with using those little button batteries.

(not only is it a fun hobby, but I can use it for practical purposes also, like checking for bacteria on surfaces that need disinfected as I heard that bacteria are supposed to glow under UV light)

There are a lot of UV flashlights on the market, if you want a decent one make sure that it is between 365nm to 390nm.
 
+1 for deal extreme. I have the ultrafire 501b and am very pleased with it. It blows my 18" fluorescent blacklight out of the water

Thanks for the ideas, I had been researching this some today and it seems like a lot more things (especially rocks and minerals) glow under shortwave UV light, and from what I read LEDs for shortwave UV are very pricey and the better option for shortwave UV would be the tube bulbs.

I'll see about posting more after I check some possibilities out.

I have it in blue, white and red, it is an ok host.

Yep, it seems to get good 254nm UV shortwave you would need to get the fluorsecent tube version, much better than what is currently available with SW UV LED and much less costly than the SW UV LEDs that are available now.

......that is why we need to use the same care with shortwave UV as we do with the more powerful lasers - avoid direct exposure to vulnerable areas and wear safety glasses :cool:

I'd say UltraFire WF-502B 410nm 1W UV LED Flashlight , Cheap and quite build .
 
If you're looking for "black light" kinds of UV, you'll need to get something around 365nm. The cheap UV lights you find on the web or ebay are usually a bit longer wavelength than that, like around 395nm. At that wavelength, you might as well just get a PHR-803T laser diode and defocus it. Fluorescent black lights will put out a lot more black light than LEDs will, but make sure you get a real black light tube, not just some blue-painted fluorescent tube.

For eye-toasting, cancer-causing UVC at 245nm, a germicidal lamp will work. I wouldn't be anywhere near it without some sort of filtering barrier between myself and the lamp. I wore my YLW goggles the whole time I was around the one I bought.
 
Yes, I think in another thread, he mentioned a 6W rechargeable. I don't know what wavelength, but that's a lot of power.
