Anyone pushed a M140 beyond 2.0A?






OK where is DTR he should be here as I'm sure he has pushed one or a couple dozen over 2.0 amps :gun:

ryansoh3, you modded a resistor on that driver to take it from 1.2A to 1.8A?

The page seems to say it has different output current depending on which LED diode which has me a bit worried...

Did you use a test load to set/test its current?
 
Its pretty normal for a driver to output different currents for different voltages that are drawn. This is why test loads have the ability to change the voltage they draw. You just test the driver at the voltage you will be needing for your diode and you are good to go.

Its also common practice to take a low current DX driver and add your own resistor to change the current.
 
I suppose I've been spoiled (in a sense) by spending $20 for my LD drivers for the most part. They generally are good about holding to some pre-set current no matter the Vf.
 
That is what you get with high quality drivers pretty much. I would expect say an x-drive to do output the same current for just about any diode. These cheapo drivers are a different story and require more testing. I have on the other hand used one of these which appears to output almost exactly the same current at different Vfs though it is a single mode driver:

I push an efficient M140 beyond 2A to test my new LPM and it measures 2.8 Watt. :)
I believe the diode can handle the 2A current.
 
Been running an M140 on a 2.12A X drive and 2X16340 successfully for about a month now in a handheld for anyone who is still curious about it.
Don't know how long it will last but will keep everyone updated.
 
Here's my 2A M-140 build. It's my daily driver, as I use it at work daily to burn hair and other fibers. With this amazing JayRob Cu heatsink, I've run 5 minute duty cycles, and regularly use it for >3 minute duty cycles. It still performs beautifully after several months and maybe as much as >1 hour on the diode.

Erm, I am able to push M140s to 2A when they are efficient enough. My personal 2.7W M140 is pushed to 2A and it has at least several hours of total runtime with no measurable degradation yet. I use it ALL the time, literally every day it gets a few duty cycles in easy.
 
That's one hell of a freak Blord. My 2.7W is the best I have seen yet at 2A. It appears the facets of the M140s are capable of quite a bit so as long as the diode is efficient and you don't allow too much heat buildup 2A shouldn't be that big of an issue.
