My Very First Laser Build!!! --- 445nm, 2W (M140), my "Alternative" Laser Host, and Analysis of Build Cost!

Thanks! And, yep! Still "working on" my latest coil, but the project has been in limbo for quite a while a while now.. about a year I think... You can find videos of my other coils on my youtube channel, if you can find my channel, which is just "nabzim" with the blue "Dude Lebowski" as my...

My Very First Laser Build!!! --- 445nm, 2W (M140), my "Alternative" Laser Host, and Analysis of Build Cost!

Check out my other thread, which I mentioned near the beginning of my post in this thread. (Or just go here: laserpointerforums.com/threads/please-help-with-my-dummy-load-design-solved-pics-and-write-up.107681/ ) Basically I had some questions answered on constructing a dummy load (but...

Any ideas why the laser dot would look like this?

Alcohol is actually pretty safe to use for almost everything... Other solvents are more questionable... The one and only solvent I would avoid using on most things, is acetone! That one, you absolutely need to be sure it's safe with the material your cleaning, before using it. I have...

Any ideas why the laser dot would look like this?

Oh! I missed that... My bad... I have actually been wanting to buy Kimwipes for ages, ever since first using them in my first chemistry lab class (I am a chem major student). Since then, I've noticed they're a standard supply in every single chemistry lab I've ever been in! Thank you for...

Any ideas why the laser dot would look like this?

I like that idea. I don't have any canned air though... But I have a 150 psi air compressor in my garage! I will give it a try next time I clean my laser lens. I have a feeling it would only work well with small surfaces, like a laser lens. Anything bigger, like a mirror, and you'd just be...

Any ideas why the laser dot would look like this?

What the f*ck is the point of a forum, if not to provide a place for people who don't know things to ask questions about said things? Wouldn't it be nice if people could come here, and learn stuff without being harassed for not knowing everything already? Prick...

Any ideas why the laser dot would look like this?

70% should do fine. Use a q-tip to wipe it on. Just don't let it evaporate on its own to dry, you need to use another q-tip or two to "mop" it up dry. Any particles or oils picked up by the isopropanol will want to adhere to the liquid. If you let it evaporate away, you're just re-depositing the...

My Very First Laser Build!!! --- 445nm, 2W (M140), my "Alternative" Laser Host, and Analysis of Build Cost!

OHHH! I had totally forgot, I had seen your build, before biting the bullet on deciding to use the aluminum enclosure!!! In fact I was thinking about building it more similarly to yours, until I had started exploring options for enclosures and heatsinks. So I'd say my build was partly inspired...

My Very First Laser Build!!! --- 445nm, 2W (M140), my "Alternative" Laser Host, and Analysis of Build Cost!

No problem! Show that old Dremel some LOVE! Well-agreed on the mill. Big fancy-shmancy machine tools not only cost too-much money, but they also take up too much space! I wish I had the money (and room) to own a lathe! 😢

Thank you very much! I'm quite proud of myself 😎

My Very First Laser Build!!! --- 445nm, 2W (M140), my "Alternative" Laser Host, and Analysis of Build Cost!

Thanks! I definitely first had thought of just mounting everything to a proto/perf-board, just so I could get my laser-fix... In the end, I decided I'd rather have it look really nice!

My Very First Laser Build!!! --- 445nm, 2W (M140), my "Alternative" Laser Host, and Analysis of Build Cost!

Thank you! For one of those chargers, do you think they have any made for charging and balancing two cells in series? (sorry I haven't looked yet, haha) True about the tools! But, in my honest opinion, even though nice big fancy tools aren't entirely necessary, I think they'd probably help a...

Oh, and I forgot to mention, before anyone calls me out: I do own laser safety goggles! It's the only thing I DIDN'T buy from eBay!!! Bought them directly from Survival Lasers! (And I took those photos while wearing them!)

My Very First Laser Build!!! --- 445nm, 2W (M140), my "Alternative" Laser Host, and Analysis of Build Cost!

Firstly, I just want to say THANK YOU to this entire forum!!! I would not have been able to learn the specific information that enabled me to build something that I've always wanted to build! Thank you LPF, and all it's members, just for being there! ❤️ For a very, very long time, I had always...

Please Help with my Dummy Load design (SOLVED. Pics and write-up!)

@gazer101 @Encap Thanks, you guys! You both gave information which I found very helpful, and from that I was able to test my driver, set the current, and therefore finish my laser! I will create a separate thread for pics of the final product. But first, I'd like to share some pics of my...

Please Help with my Dummy Load design (SOLVED. Pics and write-up!)

Thank you! That's a great idea, I will try this first. BUT... I want to be totally certain, was I correct to sum the voltage drop of the resistor with that of the diodes? Assuming 0.8V per diode is the truth, is a total drop of 5V a good approximation of the laser diode for testing-purposes...

Please Help with my Dummy Load design (SOLVED. Pics and write-up!)

I am trying to simulate an M140 diode, and I would like to run it at exactly 1.8A. (The driver I'm using can supply up to 5A, so I fear the possibility of accidentally over-currenting my diode.) For Test/Dummy Load: Rectifiers: I will be using 10A10, because I have a ton of them already. (I...
