    Am I evil?

So, I have around 150 100watt LEDs left over from my days building lights for.....indoor gardening enthusiasts. I know it would be illegal to position an array of 80 or so of these along the bottom edge of the rear window of my car wired to a momentary switch to deter tailgaters @ night...

Perhaps I wasn't paying attention, but what happened to DTR's laser shop? I just went there and it's all dead links :-(

    Powering up disruptors captain.......

I hadn't realized this technology had become this advanced. These folks are proposing using millimeter wave masers (gyrotrons) in the many megawatts class to drill 10s of miles deep to harvest geothermal heat for power generation. A quick trip to wikipedia to refresh myself on what exactly a...

    Torn

Trying to make up my mind about something and I thought I'd ask the opinion of the forum. Here's the situation: Linkedin keeps sending me a job recommendation for an engineering position at a rapidly growing laser company that happens to be within driving distance of my home. They've been...

    Side clickies have their disadvantages.......

Well darn. My EDC, (PLP520-B1), has died a thermal death. My wife and I were trying to figure out where the smell of burning paper was coming from on Sunday. I now understand it was from my jacket. My poor laser got stuck on (again) and I had the good (NiZn) batteries in it. Darn near lit...

    Another bad idea

Anybody seen the "Night Hero" binoculars? ( https://www.target.com/p/as-seen-on-tv-atomic-night-hero-binoculars/-/A-53808231 ) I saw these in wally world last night while I was waiting in line at the register and saw the words "night vision laser" on the box so I checked it out wondering...

    Sigh, another one.

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/20/health/laser-pointer-eye-hole-study/index.html Why do kids seem to feel the need to stare into a laser pointer? And no one tell the doctor they interviewed for the story that there are now 7+ watt handhelds available, OK? Poor kid.

    I'm baaaack

Well, that was.... interesting. I blew a disk in my neck and I've been off-line for a couple months. It took my right arm away for a few scary weeks but fortunately, this is a common enough problem that 'they' have gotten very good at repairing it. Outpatient surgical clinic right between an...

    Finally making a little progress...

Finally making a little progress on the TEC cooled '07 I've been wanting to put together. The host will be an old bar code scanner gun. @ 12volts in, with the TEC wired in series with the driver input, diode current is @ 3 amps, output power is about 3.5 watts, and the diode is sitting at 12...

    Possibly impossible?

All the high power blue (and now green) diodes are multi-mode. Would it be possible, even in theory, to use an external cavity to tame one of these diodes and select a single output mode? Even at the cost of 90% of the power obtainable from multi-mode operation I'd like to have a single mode...
