I got the host and assembled it. It works! I initially had some issues with the chassis body not making electrical contact to heat sink, but a reassembling seemed to make contact. Pushing the connected wires back in to let the module fit was a bit difficult.

The copper module will get a bit hot in my hands after some time, but that is when I let it cool. I haven't timed how long this is, but when very cold it seems to take a couple minutes, warm it is probobly about 30 seconds. I was assuming this heavy chunk of copper (from DTR) has a good thermal...

At the moment I have a ~1.2W 520nm 25mm copper module, it seems it alone takes a couple minutes before it gets hot to touch. Cheaper aluminum sounds good :) How do the modules mount in your host? Is it some kind of set screw and thermal paste or a more permanent fit?

I'd like to target about $50 (USD). For any DIY options, I only have some hand tools (soldering iron, dremel, cordless drill etc) no lathe, mill, drill press, taps, dies, etc for doing any real metal work.
