To encap: Great information, especially the ophir 'pointer' [no pun intended]. :)
Ophir -- very useful specialized camera -- so far seems to be exactly what I need.
Cameras don't seem to be good at detecting laser-spots/reflections in their view-finder.
It ends up showing just as a spot, about the same as a big tree-leaf on the ground.
The human eye sees the intense reflection like INSANE/RIDICULOUS, but NOT the camera.
(In fact even the sun, which you...
Anyone know of a yellow laser (and vendor source) that would be similar to this 0.8watt 532nm dpss 10X one
at 0.4 miles, similar in terms of strength/brightness and beam-diameter:

Anyone know of a red laser (and vendor source) that would be similar to this 0.8watt 532nm dpss 10X one
at 0.4 miles, similar in terms of strength/brightness and beam-diameter:

Great thanks. I didn't know the first knob could be adjusted completely independent of the 2nd knob (in the way you described). Will try that on one of mine that needs tightening-up of the beam.
That's a great answer. I was kinda wondering if there is a very-systematic way to do it. It's
a two-dimensional search (two knobs), which could seemingly take a long time without some
systematic method. (If there were only one knob, it would be cakewalk, of course.)
I know this will end up being a dumb question, but when you buy a laser from
jetlasers.org, what is the best way to dial/tune the two knobs to make the beam
as small as possible at large distances (half a mile, e.g.)? There are two knobs when
you buy a laser with a 10x expander. [My first...
Does anyone know a rough estimate of the end-cost ($) of a 1kilowatt (1kW) infrared (say 1000nm) laser with a beam-diameter of about 6inches at 0.4 miles? (I am guessing the cost will be pretty ridiculous; but, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.)
Also, what would the weight be roughly?
The car engine was running. But, there is quite a long extension cord from the inverter to the laser. The laser itself should be pretty steady. You can see its reflection-center-point is not moving, in the 2nd clip. I can drop the voltage myself, but at the moment it was a quick way
to be...
Is there a way to stop a DPSS 532nm laser (0.9watt) from flickering
as in the attached short clip? It is about a 5Hz flicker of significant
intensity-magnitude. Full-disclosure -- it is running off of an
5volt-adapter connected to a power-inverter which is connected to a
12volt car battery...
It is a project, whose details cannot be stated. I am not a terrorist. lol. (I assume "stock" meant "stalk").
It is true I am very new to lasers. So, some dumb-questions are partially inevitable. Just ignore my posts
if you don't want to 'babysit'.
