110V switchmode power supplies often have a voltage doubler as the first stage. Bypassing this stage will allow 220V operation in most cases. Can you disassemble this component and get more pictures, or are you going to take the easy (albeit heavy and expensive) way out?

18V 20A isn't really a standard value, but it would be a lot easier to replace that PSU than use a transformer.

I’m afraid I’ve taken the easy way out. My lack of expertise is with electronics so I have a 2kw toroid on its way. I appreciate your help Cyp, the problem lies with the fact there are more components inside that I can’t easily get to therefore I can’t identify them. I don’t want to disassemble it and I can’t risk anything else frying. There is another sticker inside with 110v written on it, so I can only assume that this unit was never intended to run on 240v.
