An old thread, yes. I was just curious about this subject, and I'm suprised and a bit amused that the general advice is "don't use lasers for self-defense, it might cause permanent injury and blind someone. Better use a gun!" :D As if a gun won't cause permanent injury or even death? I know I'd...
I have to say it's a pretty good deal for free (plus shipping, but was only $3-4). But if you want a quality laser you should of course look for something better. :)
Well, removed the cap on it and it's actually focusable. The focusing ring isn't even glued in, was just hidden by the front cap. It was badly focused from factory, but has a much better beam now. Still dont think it can light matches, but makes burn marks in wood
The beam combiner optics and brass holders alone would be worth 9 bucks, so even if the thing shows up with broken lasers and bad drivers, the mounting stuff is still worth it. I didn't order it though, as I'm pretty sure nothing will show up.
There is a simpler way, by default Ebay shows purchases from the last 60 days. Click the filter and you can select which year you would like to see orders from.

Isn't the deadline for disputing this 45 days? Kinda sneaky to tell you to wait upto 60 days.. :p I think paypal has a longer deadline for disputing it though.
Yeah, I don't expect it to be high power or anything, and I didn't really spend time with a specific focusing lens, I simply pointed the beam through a cheap magnifying glass and noticed it was able to create burn marks in wood. So I'll assume 30 mw is a "safe" ballpark figure for this. It was...
You would have to sign up in order to see it, but I grabbed a screenshot of the sales ad.

Hi!
I got a free 405 nm "<5mw" laser pointer from Wish (chinese store thing) which I suspect is a lot more than 5mw. Are there anyway to guestimate the ballpark figure on how powerful this thing is?
In a dark room, the beam is a little more visible than my 532nm 10mw laser. If I focus the...
LOL, three laser pointers? No mirrors or fixtures or anything? That's one scammy posting... :D I'd dispute it and get my money back if it were me, with reasoning: Item not as described. Wonder how that 1W green diode will turn out
Well, new one posted... RGB 400mW White Laser Light Module/532nm+650nm+450nm/TTL Modulation/Plug&Play | eBay
If he was scamming and people were asking their money back multiple times, his entire account would be banned, right? Still, gonna be interesting to see what shows up in the mail, if...
Yeah, not sure if it's really shipped until the seller enters a tracking number. A good indicator for scam is when the seller sells something at a seemingly impossibly cheap price, then ships without tracking.... Though, 9 bucks isn't something you'd loose much sleep over even if it's lost, and...
Ok, didn't see that. I guess safe to delete/close this thread then, I'll follow the linked thread to see what, if anything, shows up in the mail to the one who bought it. :)
RGB 400mW White Laser Light Module/532nm+650nm+450nm/TTL Modulation/Plug&Play
Am I right to think that this may be too good to be true? Seller doesn't have much feedback, so I guess that's the first red light. 9 bucks for this, even if it's crap lasers, sounds to me to be too good to be true....
Ok. At which pricepoint do you start seeing actual galvos in the Chinese projectors on Ebay, Aliexpress or similar?
Reason I'm asking is basically to buy one and tinker with it, and use it to learn how to build one of my own, which is a project I'm planning down the line after I'm done making...
I found another one of these, 71 bucks off Ebay, seems really cheap.. Out of the box it's probably not good, the scanning seems terrible from the product shots:

But the DIYer in me is intrigued, could you take one of...
Yeah, that assembly would be perfect. Omni directional barcode scanners have a great mirror assembly as well, but so far haven't been able to find parts and buying a complete one just costs too much. :) The cheaper handheld ones seem to use a fixed lens instead of a moving mirror. But if the one...
I considered doing that, was just a bit difficult to know which barcode scanner has a usable scanning assembly for my purpose. If this is a good candidate for that, I may try that one.
Yeah, could do that. But at that stage I'd probably just wait till I build a galvo, which will be again with both red and green, but this time with a beam combiner lens, or perhaps a true RGB if budget allows. But that's another project, have to do this first one first. :)
Well, the idea is to give the spirograph the ability to make a line/liquid sky effect. So the principle would be to stop the spirograph mirrors, then run the polygon mirror/galvo to create a line. It's not a super important component of this project. If it proves to be too difficult to find the...
