Yes I'm considering getting a couple too. I was thinking definitely a 505, I love the look of that colour, and I'm sure it's even better in real life, as is the case most of the time with laser light, the camera rarely does it full justice.
About 10yr ago I had a couple of then very expensive CNI dpss, one of 473nm and one of 593.5nm. I sold them on, which I now regret, wish I'd kept them. The orange one in particular was a very nice shade.
EDIT: I say then very expensive, but a quick look suggests they're now even more expensive...
You're right about beam specs, that's the main thing I like about them, nice tight beams. Though my 303 green is doing something strange, after its had a bit of a warm-up the beam starts changing about 1sec after firing, the beam dims and the spot gets a bit wider. From what I can find out this...
Ah I see. So the ktp is made for the job then. I'm guessing that the fact I haven't seen a 404 dpss means there isn't a suitable material in existence then?
OK so be gentle, as although I've been dabbling in lasers for some time now I'm still learning the ins and outs of optics and the complex processes that go on right from the diode, to optics and solid state pumping and the likes.
My question is this - I understand that a common 532nm green DPSS...
I will get into building at some point, I just wanted a ready made for the collection. I did make a red burner once from a dvd-r drive, I pulled a pen pointer apart and mounted the diode in place of the old one and altered the driver to suit. Long time ago now though.
I'd love to make a 1W...
Tbh it could well have come from China originally, like GSS says it's so identical it's probably rebadged from the same mass produced generic unit. Anyhow Zeus' customers who've fed back all appear to be happy, and the chap takes time out at late hours to communicate, it's the little things I...
OK, will do. The uk on my u/n denotes this also.
We are both talking about Zeus lasers, right? They are based in Greece, and that's where their warehouse is.
Order placed! Just have to wait for arrival now. They had to send from an alternative warehouse but as a result I've had a free upgrade to UPS urgent package. Great customer service, the chap was immediately replying messages in the late hours of Sunday night!
As far as I can find out, EU mail in the UK can contain lithium batteries when sent WITH their intended equipment, safely packaged, and are limited to the quantity required by the equipment plus a set of spares, and a maximum capacity of 20Wh per battery (26650 4200mAh are 15.5Wh each), so it...
OK so I'm creeping ever closer to a purchase now, my credit card is starting to burn my leg! So - back to price on this Zeus (Thor H2, etc etc). When you said $180 seems a lot, I forgot to point out that is the price with the aluminium carry case, 2 x 26650, charger, and goggles. If you add all...
I remember big bakelite fuses on the consumer unit, underneath each were 2 screws to which you fastened a length of fuse wire, shops sold it on a piece of card with the various wire sizes wrapped round it. Showing my age now!
I know the 3W is awesome at burning when refocused to short range, but what is the burning power like without refocusing? I'm hearing that although there's a nice beam that goes on for miles, it's greatly reduced in concentrated power. Will it literally burn nothing at that setting?
I have used these without glasses and they do have nice beams, especially the 50mW green. If/when I do get a 3W blue, I would love to look at the beam and watch it burn stuff close up but glasses will be a must at that power!
Saying that, I have only viewed a 50mW and 200mW 532nm and a 5mW 405nm through the goggles so far and they are very dim, especially the green. I know a few Watts is going to be in a different league, so will have to wait and see.
