Hi Paul,
The technique I describe is for terminated fibre.
For example a tool is a “Cletop”
https://www.fibreoptic.com.au/product/cletopoptipop-cartridge-cleaners/
If you are talking about unterminated fibre this is a different kettle of fish and also involves lapping using grades of fibre...
Its best to follow correct fibre handling and cleaning procedures.
There are dedicated fibre cleaning tools (price vary).
The best alternative is using AlcoWipes and lens cleaning tissue.
The method is holding the termination at 90 deg (vertical) to the cleaning pad and drag towards you...
Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info
Hey Guys,
My HgAr Spectral lamp is on its way from Germany. Hopefully be able to provide some images once I receive them.
So, As yet I have not conducted any adjustment of the optics other than removing baffles and the input filter.
This...
Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info
Keep in mind that HeNe Lasers operate from a DC supply, for some of these simpler discharge lamps will require AC and or High-frequency “RF”. DC will cause sputtering of the electrodes and decrease it’s lifespan.
Another good supply is CCFL...

Hey Civitus,
Lutz Neumann has an EBay store:

He also has the website
Hist. Glasapparate & Lehrmittel-Lutz Neumann:

I have met him, and a very down to earth. His is an artisan in the craft.. very...
Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info
These are by Lutz Neumann, whom is the German Glass Blower I’m referring in my previous post. He makes some excellent tubes. As mentioned, 50Euro plus shipping.
Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info
I have various discharge tubes,
I had two “neon sign” segments custom
Made as “Ar” and “Ne”
I also have some spectral tubes of Hydrogen, Helium, Neon, Argon and Xenon.
There is also a German contact /contact whom is a scientific glass...
Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info
I will do... interestingly I will also try a CFL..
I gather it’s temperature rating (k) will not affect / bias the spectrum ?
Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info
Yes, this I Understand... To get the other peaks to come up, the 585 line was clipping unfortunately. As I understand too, this spectrometer is very sensitive to low light levels (as required for the Raman application it was used in).
Ah...

The light source is from the Iphone LED, they have a broad curve with a blue peak, hence the appearance.
Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info
Hey Guys,
I now have three of these Spectrometers and have been experimenting somewhat. I have removed the baffles and input filters on all three units.
I have not made any further physical alignments of the optics, but have successfully...
Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info
I have used a pair of small pliers, you will marr the locking nut a little, but for the three units I have, I have successfully loosen the fibres.
You could also try a little solvent such a Iso alcohol or Acetone to weaken the glue, but use...
Re: B&Wtech 473nm unit / Spectrometer Mods & Info
Hello all,
I recently also acquired the bio scanner module. The laser is working at over 5mW measured.
I have opened the spectrometer and removed the baffles and filter. I have now re-calibrated the coefficients using lasers.. I am looking at...
Hey Jerry,
Thank you :)
Small world, as a number of years ago I purchased a couple of your early power meters... I may have to talk to you to get one of your newer models :)
